Carrick Hill

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Carrick Hill was built in 1939 but it looks much older as it is designed to have the appearance a 17th century English manor. It was the home of Edward Hayward (the son of the family who owned Adelaide's leading Department store - John Martin) and his wife Ursula Barr Smith (the daughter of wealthy pastoralists)
The house complete with all it's original contents is open to the public for a fee. There is no charge to walk around the gardens.

Plenty of money in Dept. Stores then Daryl. Lovely looking home. If you'd said it was the Governors residence I could have believed that too.

Hi Gary, John Martin was a leading Department Store for many years but it's time in Adelaide came to an end several years ago when it was taken over by David Jones.
