On the foreground lawn, a young girl appears to be about to throw a ball (or something!) to the boy sitting at bottom-right who, at first glance, appears to be wearing a peaked cap. However, on higher resolutions it can be seen that the "peak" is caused by head movement. Perhaps the photographer asked them to pose for the photo. This would account for the youngster being sat down!

As far as I can recall, the only time I would voluntarily "sit still" when outdoors was if I had been given something to eat. A response based on the instinctive realization that anything that missed my mouth the first time around would still be within arms the next.

This is number four in a series of six photographs. The elevated viewpoint suggests it was taken from a building (possibly a school, but now demolished) shown in number two:
