Beautiful shot, Jim. This is just like a storybook to me. It must be so wonderful to have these incredibly scenic and comforting little cobblestone streets right at your doorstep (so to speak). best regards from alicia (the title adds to the storybook feel of course ;))

Ah, Alicia. How nice to hear from you once more. I do so enjoy your visits and witty comment. Feedback is most encouraging, and how uplifting is a friendly quip, and a little praise.

So many people have commented on these quaint old streets that I take so much for granted. I realise that living here is a great priviledge and I confess that I am very fond of my home town.

Today has seen blankets of thick freezing fog hanging over the town, giving it an eery enchanted ambience. Just like you said Alicia, a story book feel. (-J^)

Your lovely comments are so precious, thankyou.

I'm so glad you are very fond of your home town, Jim! The beauty in our immediate surroundings is always there no matter how 'stagnant' we are feeling about it, and it's nice that you are constantly seeking it out in your photos. And the fact that you consider freezing fog 'enchanting' is simply testimonial :D!

You have an eye for those appealing scenes and I am enjoying your gallery very much. Cheers to you, -alicia

Not far from these old houses climb the world famous 199 steps. This strength sapping elevator to heaven (the Parish Church of St Mary is at the top of here) was the only means of access to the graveyard. There are Landings at regular intervals so that the Pall Bearers could lower the coffin and rest awhile to regain their strength.

Burials do not take place here today but it is THE place to get hitched.

Warm wishes Alicia and thankyou for your lovely comments.

Yep, it seems like a mighty effort. Most guys and gals would never have the energy to make their vows if they had to climb up. Fortunately, there is now a smooth road to this amazing old church. There are Pews inside that were reserved for the sole use of the Lord of the Manor, a Mr Hugh Cholmley (circa 1600 ad) His was the most prominent and luxurious pew nearest to the preacher. The interior remains as it was all those centuries ago.

Cheers Alicia.

I thankyou for your interesting and reflective thoughts on this photo Sonja.

I agree with your sentiments, I too prefer the cosiness of small homely houses with ordinary people living simple lives.

Warm wishes Sonja.
