Hello Stephan, yes it was just after tea-time, there had been a short sharp Hail Storm only moments before, and everyone disappeared off the street. This Alley is very old and atracts many tourists. I'm glad you liked it Stephan.
Cheers

Reflecting on your lovely comments May, I realise why Panoramio is compulsive viewing for me. It is exactly how you put it, the quest for knowledge and making the discovery of places and the people who live there. To have made contact and conversation with people such as yourself, gives me so much pleasure.
So many good friends here take the time to respond and comment, this enhances the pleasure so much. I value your precious comments and Its an honour to be included in your favourites.
Warm wishes May.

Greetings Penelope and a big welcome.
This was like I had shouted "I have the plague". Only minutes before, the street had been packed with holiday makers.
Thanks for taking the time to look. I appreciate your lovely comments.

Alicia, so nice to hear from you once more. I think that you are getting hooked on this old town that I call home. Like everywhere Alicia, not everything here is quite so pretty..
When I leave the jetty for the open ocean in my boat, everything you see here takes on a different perspective. The dwellings tower above me and the people look down to the river as they watch me sail by. The seagulls, now in there true element, call and swoop low overhead. The smell of the salty sea whets my lips and I set a course for the fishing grounds way way in the distant ocean. This is a special place that sets me apart from the humdrum of life ashore. This is a different world, a wild and windy coast with towering cliffs, seabirds, Whales, dolphins, Seals and Porpoise. What more could a nature lover desire ??
Cheers Alicia.

Yes, most of us do tend to paint the 'prettier' picture, and I've never been to your neck of the woods, but ever since I visited that beautiful island, I fell in love with it and know I want to return some day. You say "everthing there is not quite so pretty.." and then you go on to most poetically describe a wonderful coastal scene - thank you for the smile :D. Cheers from a latitude and coastal weather not too different and one who loves all the seasons that it offers - alicia

Alicia, you are more than welcome. I really appreciate your friendly feedback.
Sometimes I get a little carried away,(waxing lyrically) but they are my true poetic feelings. It is easy to find inspiration from my beautiful surroundings. The reality of Yorkshire is much more impressive than mere photos can project.
Having said all that Alicia, beauty can be found everywhere.
Warmest of wishes.

I greet you warmly Bánfalvi Suzi Natusk…~~~~ You might recognise this as the old quarter and is a very popular place for local people and visitors alike!!
There are many excellent shops, much interesting architecture and a great atmosphere!! This is also my favourite street in the town, because at each end there is an exciting prospect.
At one end is the old swinging bridge. It opens frequently to allow the river traffic through and is very interesting to watch! At the other end, there is a steep ascent of the cliffs via a stone staircase of 199 steps..This leads up to the beautiful parish church with the bell and clock tower..Also the iconic ruined monastery is accessed from here...
The view across the town from the cliff top is breath taking!!
Thank you so much for leaving so many wonderful comments Natuska..I am deeply honoured ;.)
