When I leave the jetty for the open ocean in my boat, everything you see here takes on a different perspective. The dwellings tower above me and the people look down to the river as they watch me sail by. The seagulls, now in there true element, call and swoop low overhead. The smell of the salty sea whets my lips and I set a course for the fishing grounds way way in the distant ocean. This is a special place that sets me apart from the humdrum of life ashore. This is a different world, a wild and windy coast with towering cliffs, seabirds, Whales, dolphins, Seals and Porpoise. What more could a nature lover desire ??

Sometimes I get a little carried away,(waxing lyrically) but they are my true poetic feelings. It is easy to find inspiration from my beautiful surroundings. The reality of Yorkshire is much more impressive than mere photos can project.

There are many excellent shops, much interesting architecture and a great atmosphere!! This is also my favourite street in the town, because at each end there is an exciting prospect.

At one end is the old swinging bridge. It opens frequently to allow the river traffic through and is very interesting to watch! At the other end, there is a steep ascent of the cliffs via a stone staircase of 199 steps..This leads up to the beautiful parish church with the bell and clock tower..Also the iconic ruined monastery is accessed from here...

The view across the town from the cliff top is breath taking!!
