Burg Eltz ~ Eltz Castle (1)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Isolated in the valley of the Mosel River, near Koblenz, Burg Eltz is an authentic medieval castle, dating back to the mid twelfth century. Unlike many old German castles, it has never seen serious battles, so it maintains its original appearance without the help of modern architecture.

Beautiful place, nice picture!

Hi Rosa - Looks like you have been on your easter travels, so I guess there might be more pix's coming from it, but nice sequence of what looks like an interesting old castle. Reminds me of another lovely castle on a hill (name eludes me of it) that I remember seeing from the road when driving through Germany many years ago.

Rosalyn Hilborne on April 3, 2013

Thank you Kuins. It is in a beautiful setting. Greetings, Rosa.

Thanks for the YS Ian. It's my favourite too. We did have a guided tour of the inside. It's very well kept and quite fascinating, very different. I saw a photo of the family who still live in part of it. Beautiful but a little too eerie for me.

Hi Ray, yes a very busy short break! The weather wasn't the best for photos but I will pick out a few more of the nice little towns along the Rhine. There were so many castles along the river that I wouldn't like to guess which one you are thinking of.

Well this is out of the ordinary dear Rosa. Spectacular fairy tale castle. I can just imagine Rapunzel letting down her hair from one of the windows! ;-)

Still very cold here, but the last bit of snow may disappear from the garden tomorrow!

It really is like something from a fairy tale book Amelia! I hope it warms up for you soon. We did not get the snow this time! Cheers, Rosa.

Thank you for the L&F Jutta. It must be one of the most beautiful castles in Germany. Greetings to you. Rosa.
