- I had seen this grey heron already several times in and around a little canal. On wednesday the 27th of march I saw it again with the frog in the beak (down left picture).
Usually these birds are very shy and take off when you get more close but this one, even when it saw me, just stayed where it was and tried to hide by ducking behind the reeds. At first I thought it had a lame wing but when it walked over ( left down right photo) there was no lame wing to be seen. I guess the long lasting winter weather, hardly being able to find food, had exhausted it to the max.
Last mondayevening ( 2nd day of Easter) I found it dead, just at the edge of the ditch.
