Goldfinch ~ Carduelis carduelis

Not selected for Google Earth or Google Maps [?]

A highly coloured finch with a bright red face and yellow wing patch. Sociable, often breeding in loose colonies, they have a delightful liquid twittering song and call. Their long fine beaks allow them to extract otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels. Increasingly they are visiting birdtables and feeders. In winter many UK goldfinches migrate as far south as Spain. From :

Hi Nick,

I can see you have really mastered these garden birds now! A beautiful lose up of the goldfinch which earns a big like from me.

Best Wishes Peter

Peterprivatebox, ~ For me they remain a fairly rare sight Peter and they are very shy and aware of the slightest movement ~ but gradually I'm creeping closer to them :~) Thanks for another big like ~ All the very best to you ~ nick

Steve Drury No chance Steve ~ It has taken me several weeks to be able to get this close to them. My secret is that I park the landrover fairly near and hide in the back with the rear half door up, camera covered by blankets etc and still they are as nervous as anything :~) Thanks for the YSL and your very encouraging words ~ All the very best ~ nick

Dan7 ~ I was probably one of the most impatient people you could find once upon a time :~) Photographing wild life teaches you patience and awareness that is for sure :)) Thanks for your visit and like ~ Best wishes ~ nick
