I used to live by the wharf and in those days we were all in Stafford-shire and it was always referred to as Brownhills wharf by the the boatmen and the locals. Now with the ever changing boundary between Stafford-shire and the West Midlands I notice it is in Burntwood.
Hamton Boats. The length of a narrowboat is governed by the locks that it had to use and was generally limited to 70 feet.57 feet in some area's. Boats that only went from Walsall Wood pit The Wharf and Cannock to Wolverhampton did not go through any locks and were therefore not restricted to 70 feet. These boats were called Hampton Boats and were I believe 96 feet Long.
