Over a century ago a bridge was donated by Germany to enable vehicles etc to cross the Caledon River, in the region of Wepener. The Jammerdrift bridge is the only bridge of this kind in the world, as all Germany's bridges were destroyed during the war. It is proclaimed a World Heritage Monument.

Hendrik about the Jammersdrift bridge. I went to school in wepener for years & was always late for school when my brother took me on Mondays from the farm. The amazing thing is that my brother used to somedays reach speeds of 160 km an hour with his Mazda Rotary riding through that bridge. Used to pray alot in those days.
