Wonderful shot, Marilyn! Two arches in one photo...amazing. I will definitely need to talk my husband into a trip to Eastern Utah sometime soon. ;-)
Thanks for sharing this beautiful shot Marilyn of such unique place, which I will include in my favorites collection.
If I were you, I'd rather name it The Eyes of Castle Valley, since those two close arches looks like eyes to me.
It's good you map it, so if I get a chance to visit Utah.......
What a spectacular sight, Marilyn! It's a wonderful picture! Cheers, Anne
Great capture Marilyn. Just love the contrast between sky and desert.
I appreciate your comments, DeEtte, Miša, Anne, and Tom.
Panoramio has some beautiful pictures of this formation taken shortly before sunset. It glows in the low light of the sun! Originally we planned to return to Arches to enjoy the late afternoon sunlight, but we were so enthralled by the views at nearby Canyonland National Park that we didn't.
At first I wasn't going to post this less dramatic shot, but eventually I decided that the side lighting was rather nice. (Panoramio also includes some very dull shots with flat lighting, and this is certainly not flat!)
This is a beautiful shot Marilyn: the sky and desert really compliment each other.
It's hard to settle on which of your desert photos to comment on first: each time I go back to your latest page there's more to look at!!
Thank you, Sean. It's difficult to decide what to upload! The whole area is so beautiful that it's hard to go wrong taking pictures. Regards, Marilyn
Nature windows! Nice.
Yes, Pepe, sometimes nature gives me windows!!
great shot, marilyn! i really like the lighting and clouds :) they also call these 2 "the spectacles" ;) cheers, brian
Again thanks. While I was there I recognized the resemblance without knowing the name. It might have been fun to title the picture "Shades"! Cheers, Marilyn
This has a very nice feel to it, Marilyn. I like the unusual almost half and half composition of earth/sky, and also the very subtle lighting. Not the usual over-rich red of that area that the sun usually brings out. Maybe it is too early in the year for it to be sunburnt ;)?
Thanks for your comment, Alicia, especially regarding the lighting. Panoramio has some gorgeous "sunburnt" shots of this pair of arches. It also has some less-than-gorgeous shots where the rocks are flat and pale, or back-lit in a way that does not do them justice. I didn't post this as early as I did some pictures of the area, but looking at some not-too-successful shots made me appreciate the lighting during our visit. (Regarding composition, it suggests to me the limitations of "rules"!) Greetings, Marilyn
it glorifies nature,regards **Giorgio*
I'm sorry I'm late in thanking you, Giorgio. I'm glad you like it. Greetings, Marilyn
