Below is a link to an interesting CBC story about someone from Canada trying to find the Peterson farm, which is just fainly visible in this picture. Apparently the idea of just accepting their apology and turning them around never crossed their mind. The Border Patrol gets dumber every year. http://license.icopyright.net/3.8471?icx_id=/2010/03/31/nb-border-problems-428.html
Thanks for the link wbaron...I'll have to let my wife's father know about this..his wife grew up 5 km from there and back in the 50's people would just flit back and forth etc and many 'internationl' marriages occurred. From reading the article and watching the video they seem like totally innocent people. Technically, the USBS people were doing their job, but they have probably turned off many locals from going across the border for shopping/socializing. From what I can figure out this couple (wife from the general area) bought a house that was previously owned by the same person or family that owns the farmhouse that is in Canada but gets access from the US. Comparing this border with european borders is incredibly different. Thanks for the link
I was saddened to read in a new book about the Maine-New Brunswick "Imaginary Line" by Jacques Poitras that the Petersens have passed away. The author suggests the stress put on them by the US Border Patrol by not allowing them to have any visitors hastened their death.
