Figueres, Museo Dalí - labios para descansar ! (lips to rest !)

This is one of the most famous oeuvres of Salvador Dalí (C. Theodorou)

Salvador Dali (Figueres, 11 May 1904 - Figueres, 23 January 1989) was one of the greatest Spanish painters and artists.

He was connected to the art movement of surrealism to which he belonged for a time. In the decade of 1930, Dali invents extra paranoia-critical method, as he calls it, which is a kind of surrealist art in order to access the unconscious in favor of artistic creation. Dali supports this method to the human capacity to work associatively, linking images or objects that are not related necessarily logically. Directly connected with the Surrealist automatism and Freudian theories about dreams.

In the early years he was experimented with cubisme and dadaisme. In 1926 came to Paris and meets Picasso, who inspired Dali. He became member of the Surrealistic movement, but after his supporting to General Franco, André Breton deleted him from the movement.

In 1929, Dali works with Luis Bunuel to create the short film "Andalusian Dog". Dali helps substantially in the script of the film, which is to date the most straightforward application of surrealism in cinema. Meanwhile, Dalí knows his future wife and muse, Helena Dimtrievna Delouvina Diakonova of Russian origin, best known as Gala (from the name "Galatea").

From 1940 to 1948 lived in the USA, working also for Walt Disney, for a movie (Destino), but only 15 seconds from his work were presenting.

He returned in Spain and between 1960 - 1974 he worked almost exclusively for the creation of the Theatre-Museum Gala-Salvador Dali in Figueres.

In 1982, King Juan Carlos of Spain awarded him the title of Marquis.

It is one of the most famous painters of the 20th century and a very eccentric character of contemporary art.
