Plougrescant is best known for the postcard that has toured the world and represents a small stone house built and set between two huge granite boulders, ‘’Castel Meur’’. The bay, nicknamed ‘’Abyss of Hell Bay’’, consists of a tangle of sections of cliffs, collapsed long time ago. This remarkable site, but especially impressive by the roughness of the landscape, multiplies the impression of being in hell during storms. Breaking waves rush with violence between huge granite boulders, raising showers of spray blown hundreds of meters! Some days, the fury of the elements takes extraordinary proportions, as in March 2008, when huge waves were nearly to take away Castel Meur. With a height and extreme violence, they raised tons of gravel, taking away also stones from the boundary wall built 150 years ago, to deposit them more far on almost a meter high!
