Wonderful, Marilyn! The winds were horrendous in New Mexico at the time I was thinking you were going to be there. They actually started just as I was leaving White Sands after a beautiful still morning taking photos. It looks as though the weather was more cooperative where you were.

Thanks, Eve. We were fortunate and the weather was very cooperative. There's something that would amuse you, though. On the Elderhostel we had a number of sunrise and sunset photo shoots, and of course it was pretty cool then. Many members of the group were complaining--good-naturedly but sincerely. My husband and I were the only Canadians in the group, and we were always quite comfortable, and had a hard time seeing what the fuss was about!

Wonderful picture, Marilyn! From the thumbnail this rock formation almost looked like a church! It's such a fascinating landscape! Greetings, Anne

Thank you, Anne, eme jota, and Jaques. There are a number of shots of this rock formation on Panoramio, but I decided that I was fortunate to have unusually good lighting, so I added this to the number.

Greetings, Marilyn

Very nice shot, Marilyn. I've never seen this rock formation before. It has many interesting and different qualities about it. Thank you for sharing it.

Fun to hear about your group, Marilyn. I'm sure you and your husband were well-prepared. It must have seemed balmy to you. Every day on the hiking trips my husband and I lead, people ask if they need to bring everything, and every day we say yes. And every year on the June hiking trip in Yellowstone National Park, it will snow, and at least one person will have decided to leave their warm clothing or rain gear at the hotel because the weather had been fine up to then and they decided they didn't need it. It's always a good lesson about the totally unpredictable weather in the Rocky Mountains :).

Thank you, DeEtte, for your comment, and Eve, for your anecdote!
