Laquila on April 9, 2009

It is with sorrow that I post this on 10 April 2009 and after the devastating earthquake of 6 April 2009 that has all but dedtroyed the City of L'Aquila and seriously if not fatally damaged the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio. From press photos it appears a large part ot the left rear walls by the north nave of the baislica has collapsed leaving a huge gaping hole and probably there is other unseen structural damage. My Sisters house is just around the corner by the city park on Viale Luigi Rendina close to the east city perimeter wall and the wall entrance at Porta Leone. My sister and all her family to include grandchildren miracoluosly escaped out their respective buildings as those very buildings collapsed about them. My name is Domenic (Domenico) Vittorini and my syster's name is Anna Cordone Vittorini and her daughters are Grazia Cordone Daniele with husband Domenico (Memme), Ida Franchini with husband Carlo, and Leda Cordone Juliani. there are four Grand children: Lele and Annalisa Daniele, and Federica and Valentina Franchini. They have lost their homes and I am saddened and devastated But am thankful and very mindfull that so many were not so lucky and either injured or lost their lives. May Santa Maria Di Collemaggio hold them on the palm of their hand. Mournfully Domenico
