What it is? An observation balloon? Hot-air?

Mingo on April 25, 2009

Yes! Than you can have a look over Brussels...

Hi Ania, Hi Mingo

It's actually not a hot-air balloon; it's a so-called "cable balloon".

Cable balloons are filled with ultralight gas and attached to a cable that allows the ballon to be pulled to the ground.

This was indeed an observation balloon, offering visitors the rare opportunity to see Brussels from above. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in 2005 by heavy snowfall...

Best regards - Hans

C'est dommage, mais voilà... A cette date, c'était bien un ballon pour voir BXL d'en haut! Merci pour ton com, Hans!

This balloon was a very nice experience! Some people liked it very much, other were completely scared being in the sky attached to earth with only a thiny cable! It was very disapointing at the end of the commercial contract, when they decided not to renew it! I couldn't understand it as it was quite expensive to enjoy that balloon in the air! Crazy commercial world!

Hi Clauzi, thank your for your visit and your comment. I also enjoyed the balloon but it fact it was not (only) a commercial decision to stop this attraction: the balloon was damaged by snow and launching a new one would have cost too much...

Best regards from Belgium - Hans
