Mănăstirea Bârsana este o veche vatră monahală. Localitatea Bârsana este atestată documentar începând cu anul 1326. În anul 1791 statul austriac confisca averea Mănăstirii Bârsana şi o subordoneazî Mănăstirii Cernok – Ucraina, ultimii călugări refugiindu-se la Mănăstirea Neamţ . Biserica mănăstirii părăsite a fost mutată în 1806 de credincioşii din Bârsana în vatra satului, unde se află şi în prezent. Vechea Mănăstire Bârsana a fost cea mai importantă şcoală de preoţi din zonă şi lăcaş de cultură pentru regiunea Maramureşului Aici se puteau găsi cărţi de cult în limba română, aduse din Moldova şi Ţara Românească. Mănăstirea avea propriul său atelier unde erau pictate icoanele.
Mănăstirea actuală a fost reînfiinţată în 1993-1995 pe locul vechii mănăstiri şi cuprinde : Biserica mănăstirii (22,57 metri lungime, 12,20 metri lăţime şi 57 metri înălţime), Altarul de vară, Aghiasmatarul, Stăreţia, Casa maicilor, Casa artistului, Casa duhovnicului, Casa meşterilor, Praznicarul cu trapeza, Muzeul, Turnul-clopotniţă, Poarta maramureşeană, Monumentul funerar.

Bârsana Monastery is an ancient monastic fireplace. Bârsana village is attested since 1326. In 1791 Austrian State confiscate the wealth of Bârsana Monastery and subordinated him to the Cernok Convent (Ukraine), the last monks find un refuge to the Neamţ Monastery. The church of the abandoned monastery was moved in 1806 by the believers in the center of the village Barsana, where he is now. Old Bârsana Monastery was the most important school of priests in the area and place of culture in the region of Maramureş. Here it could find religious books in Romanian, brought from Moldova and Valachia. The monastery had its own workshop where they were painted icons. The current monastery was restored in 1993-1995 on the site of the old monastery and comprises: Church monastery (22.57 meters long, 12.20 meters wide and 57 meters high), summer Altar , Aghiasmatarul (holy water place) , Priory House , Nuns House , Artist House, Confessor House, Masters House , the Refectory, the museum, bell tower, the Gate in Maramureş style and the funerary monument .
