The lensbaby is a really simple lens arrangement, for SLR cameras. Most standard lenses would have somewhere between 7 and 13 or so elements, each with multiple coatings to cut down on lens flare, aberations, blur, etc. The lensbaby 3G has a single coated 'doublet', mounted on the front of a bendy plastic tube. (The original lensbaby has a single lens, uncoated.)

You focus by squeezing or slightly extending the tube, and once the focus is correct, you can move the 'sweet spot' - ie the area that is in focus - around the image.
