And life goes on

Two hours in the life of a Pilbara Ghost Gum.

These shots were taken out the back of Roebourne on the Harding Dam Rd.

On the way out there I noticed some smoke on the horizon which was coming from a distant bushfire. When I arrived at my predetermined spot I was relieved to see that the smoke was in fact, further around to the west and wouldn’t get in the way of my plans.

I didn’t realize at the time however that I was in fact facing the fire and the smoke had just blown to the right :)

The resulting orange glow at the base of the tree (which was not visible with the naked eye), is from that distant bush fire.

I was taking two 15 second exposures per minute leaving a 15 second gap for NR between images. The final 'Star Trail' composite is a ‘stack’ of 231 images taken over approx 140 minutes at ISO3200.

Steve this is a good use of your time well spent... Almost too much info in this photo but I love it... and your camera skills are at a Jedi master level I see.! :)

SteveW on May 12, 2013

G'day Lex,

My time management skills were put to the test that evening..... but I managed to watch three episodes of 'Justified' on the laptop in the ute while the camera was merrily clicking away outside :) The problem was that due to the heat I had to leave the ute windows down and so enjoyed the show with about 1000 moths and other assorted bugs in attendance :)

I do enjoy taking these nightsky shots but consider myself to be more a Padawan than a Jedi Master..... thanks for the boost though :

Thanks John, you are most kind :)

Looking forward to seeing your next offerings, I suppose the D800 has been in hibernation during the winter months. It's been a bit miserable over there I know.

All the best. Steve

Thanks Spence, glad to hear that you like this picture :)

I thought it might be a tad overly-busy when I first combined the stack..... but to be honest, it's growing on me.

Hello Jim,

Thanks mate, you're most kind.

Well you've certainly got the scenery in your neck of the woods. Couple that with your compositional skills and we're all in for a treat.

Looking forward to seeing the results mate :)

(Don't forget the thermos and a blanket though Jim) :)

Cheers guys...... Steve

Thanks Amar,

I have tried Google Translate but came up short....

You are either: An Owl, and out-of-control steam locomotive or an excited Panoramio member who quite likes my star-trail photograph......

I prefer to go with the latter :)))

All the very best..... Steve
