Aha! Carrying a stick to the nest, I would think? Nicely captured! And yes, I have seen some juvenile black-crowned night herons here in Ontario, too. So I guess they nest here as well.

Thanks a lot. This photo was taken mid-Jan, which is herons' mating and nesting season. That whole tiny island alone houses tens of thousands of cormorants, herons, and egrets. As you can see from the sat image, it is surrounded by industrial zones.

I am finding out with a country's best ornithologist whether the BCNH really migrates as far as continental North America.
