This is a photograph of the Brownhills Market before the site was taken over by Hilliards (now Tesco} The building to the rear is Ravens Court. It was a super market with a good diversity of goods.

What a splendid picture. Tanks, George.

It's mid 70s or later looking at the cars. There's a Rangerover on the car park, and they weren't launched until late 1970. The supermarket in Ravens Court has a Tesco sign, that didn't change from Victor Value until 1971. The blue van foreground, and two-tone small car next to it (which I'm not enough of a petrol head to ID) looks late 70s, actually, and a bit metro-ish, but it's not square enough. Any advance on that? Cheers Bob

The car (I'm told) is a Golf MK 1, which puts this past 1976, apparently. Note the wheel arches: I cold be wrong, though. Cheers Bob

You are probably right, I was relying on Memory never thought of looking at Cars. I have a photo taken later when Hillards was there with a Austin Maestro on it, these were out in 1984 so it was before this time.

Hi George

It's a technique you develop after years of trying to decipher old aerial photos. Cars, demolished buildings and whether or not folk are parked at factories all help you work out when an image was taken.

It really is a fantastic, and very valuable photo. Thank you so much for sharing this, and all your other wonderful images.

I did a post for you this lunchtime

Cheers Bob
