thanks h - the story goes that certain signs were painted red to help illiterate warders find the way to the docks with prisoners bound for Botany Bay(there's still a Botany Bay pub not far from there) - they've been repainted a nice bright red recently, but still quite bleak come sunset at the end of a late winter's day...

Cheers graham for that , love the deep saturation of colours in this, the motion on the truck, the bright patch in the sky under the sign arm .... that still doesn't explain all so i'll give you a y* for this one. its a lovely odd shot if that helps! i'll put it in the favs...
regards h

h -I think its that unanlysable quality about a picture that does it for you in the end, isn't it? - you come back to it because you can't nail down why you like it and file it away, done and dusted. Glad you like this one. Thanks for your comments. Graham

True graham, but thats the beauty of photography, you nail the image in millisecond of time. pics like these can never be repeated, they can be reshot and improved but there will always a difference. Its the mood and tone in this pic. A lovely odd shot!

Wow Graham. You guys get some great names for places in the UK.

Not as graphic as Oz place names, dasha, I don't think, or maybe just too shrouded in the mists of time, but yeah, the place names round here are a source of constant amazement to me, not being a native of this part of the UK
