Beautiful, Mr. Adams. This trip looks magnificient. What month (date) is this?
Thanks for the good words. This trip was in late June, 2006. I well remember concluding the trip in Bettles and being invited to the town 4th of July picnic!
Thanks for the reply. Do you have the story of this trip written somewhere I can read it? I'm contemplating heading to this area of the Brooks Range.
You'll be glad you went. We took a small plane to Bettles then got flown by floatplane to "Oolah" Lake at N 68.15968 W 150.23048. From there we hiked up "Thunder Valley" to the headwall and "Shangri-La" as mentioned by Bob Marshall, at N 68.15559 W 150.58205. From there we retraced steps, crossed the Continental Divide at a low pass at N 68.07100 W 150.44506, then via Amawk and St. Patrick Creeks and the Clear River to Chimney Lake at N 67.76239 W 150.49519 where we were picked up by our outfitter. We had a few days of 70-degree bug-free bliss followed by an Arctic storm that ruined my ultralight-packing buddy's gear and could have killed us. Expect terrible storms and be prepared. Magnificent country but at quite a cost.
Wow. Sounds like a great trip Doug. I'll have to look up those spots on GE to really get a gist of what you did, but I appreciate the detail. Sounds like quite the adventure. I'll be sure to peruse your other photos. Thanks.
