Quinault Baskets and razor clams - 200804LJW

This is one of many photos I took for a poster about an upcoming basketry conference. The one basket with the razor clams (just dug from these wide flat sandy beaches) is a traditional Quinault collecting basket, as is the one behind it. The mat is traditional, too. All are made from western redcedar. A Japanese glass fishing float was covered with the same material and uses traditional designs. It was a gray morning with showers. A hazy sun broke though the clouds just long enough to light the baskets and give it bit of warmth.
