Puente De Luz ('Bridge of Light'), the newest Toronto pedestrian bridge opened to the public in December 2012. Designed by Chilean sculptor Francisco Gazitua (structural engineer Peter Sheffield), and is now one a series of public art installations dotting the landscape of the Concord CityPlace neighbourhood. This yellow (no bricks) road will carry pedestrians as well as bicyclists. These photos are from my inaugural crossing earlier in July.
The wire mesh is really ugly, ugly and I am quite sure it was not there at the design stage and was added on the insistence of city bureaucrats and lawyers.
This bridge was badly criticized in the Toronto media. I think it is great, like the bright yellow, but the wire mesh......??? Is is not very well used yet. But the 10,000 new "CityPlace" residents will eventually find it.
...and yes, it rained hard later on!
