'Puente De Luz', $8 million pedestrian bridge, December 2012. Parade Condominiums - architects: Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates

Puente De Luz ('Bridge of Light'), the newest Toronto pedestrian bridge opened to the public in December 2012. Designed by Chilean sculptor Francisco Gazitua (structural engineer Peter Sheffield), and is now useful crossing in the new Concord CityPlace neighbourhood. This yellow (no bricks) road will carry pedestrians as well as bicyclists. These photos are from my inaugural crossing earlier in July. The Parade condos were completed about the same time as the bridge.

The wire mesh is really ugly, ugly and I am quite sure it was not there at the design stage and was added on the insistence of city bureaucrats and lawyers. There are 2 bridges nearby, without any wire mesh. If I want to jump, I could jump from any of them! Stupid, indefensible decision to add the wire mesh.

I was wondering if the structure was a bit inspired by McDonalds Golden Arches.

Sep. 2013 TTT contest UP-STRAIGHT-DOWN. It placed in honorable 3rd place!
