Derelict Frog Mill in Frogmill Covert

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The Severn Valley, John Randall (1882)

Presently as the dale grows narrow, a rumbling sort of sound is heard, and the measured click of wheels indicates the approach to Frog Mill, and if Frog Mill does not satisfy the requirements of the reader of what an old water mill of the true primitive kind should be we should indeed feel surprised. It is not a red brick erection of modern times; it is many-tinted patchwork walls are the result of a greater number of centuries than the old building has gables, and there are many. primitive in construction, dusted with flour, and bronzed with lichens it has the air of antiquity landscape painters love to convey to canvas when representing rustic country life, and this little wooded valley has echoed to the click of its machinery for a thousand years at least. It ground wheat and rye and other grain for the Saxon Churl at Astey, now Astley Abbotts, and the Norman Lords of Linley. It's barns and sheds, implements and fold-yard, show that agriculture is combined with the miller's avocation.
