We were and we didn't. The sign above the bridge read "One person at a time on bridge". Clearly something went wrong! Greetings from the East (or the South -or both).

We crossed this river (Mills River) some time later, in winter, in bare feet and I can tell you that getting out of the water is the most painful part of it. When the feeling comes back..... you wish it hadn't.

That river looks cool. Is there a place to camp close river Milles ?

David Brown Photogra… on March 10, 2009

Yes there is. There is an organized camp site at Mills River recreation area.

Alternatively you can camp in numerous places by the river with a bit of a walk in. Its a nice area!

Thanks for all info, but i wonder if you can camp anywhere you want, or it has to be camp places/state parks?

David Brown Photogra… on March 13, 2009

In National Forests (I think) you can basically camp anywhere you want as long as you are more than 1/4 miles from a road and there is not a sign to say you cannot.

So, in this area there are many camp spots a good hike into the area, by rivers and creeks and away from the paths. There are even a few that are accessible by road.

The Ranger Districts are quite friendly so give them a call and get the low down. Its Pisgah Forest Ranger District.

Good luck.
