Did you notice the area all round is like a great bowl which 10,000 years ago was collecting snow and ice up to 1,000m thick and sending glaciers out in all the current river valleys down toward the sea. The area is still rising after the melting of all that ice. It may look like it lacks grand features but the vastnes and emptyness is its grand feature.
