Wheat Sheaf Tavern, Toronto tradition since 1849. The old meaning of wired world.

Wheat Sheaf Tavern, probably the oldest licensed watering hole in Toronto. Established in 1849, it never changed its name!.

For 120 years, it was only men, who could drink here. Women only gained access to the tavern in 1969. Yes, Toronto was that backwards. On several occasion through out its history however it was owned and run by women.

One proprietor (1884-1894) was named John Beer, which I find was very appropriate.

The wiring is of course for the streetcar use. this intersection is where sometimes streetcar turns, so there are few more wires than usual.
