Thank you Margherita. This place has changed alot since I was here last. about 8 years ago.

There is a story about this mountain and the abbey. When settlers came to this area the local indians considered this mountain a sacred place. They said they could drum here and it could be heard as far away as Mt Shasta in California and Rainer in Washington. They used it to communicate with other tribes 100's of miles away.

This Mountain was called "Topalamaho" by the Native Americans now it is called "Mt Angel".

When the church came they took the mountain from the tribes for their abbey. The Elders of the tribes cursed the place. Saying that the abbey will burn down every time it was rebuilt. So far the abbey has burnt down 2-3 times mainly because they could not get water up to the top. After the last time the buildings burnt down the church put in a water main to help prevent anymore fires from spreading.

thanks

Michael..
