Rich Milky Way starfields in the region of Scorpius. I estimate there are over 20,000 stars visible in this image. The bright (slightly yellowish) star (lower centre) is the red super-giant star, Antares, the sixteenth brightest star in the sky, 550 light years away. Note the bright nebulosity in that region; and also the dark nebulosity streamers. Visible upper left are the open star clusters NGC 6231 and Tr24; and the emission nebula IC4628.
