A French Burr millstone salvaged from Oamaru Creek in front of The Grainstore (where it is displayed) This stone and another two in worse condition were found in the creek where they may have been dumped after being stored for ???years. The stones are thought to have originated from Meeks Mill which was a stone mill driven by a water wheel in Oamaru creek for a short time before conversion to steam power and roller milling. Meeks Mill is 800 metres upstream. The stones had been stored in another building when Meeks Mill converted from stone to roller milling and from waterwheel power to steam.
