Janos Lenard was responsible for the design. He was the Chief Architect of the in-house Building Services section in the Chief Civil Engineer’s Department of the then South African Railways and Harbours (SAR&H). SAR&H was renamed ‘SA Transport Services’ in the 1980s then renamed ‘Transnet’ in April 1990. He returned to Hungary from Johannesburg approx 10 years ago.

The mosaics are designed by Samuel Jozua (Sam) Fourie (1919-2012), artist in the designing section of the The South African Railways, with the help of Miss Hilary Coetzee.

Samuel Jozua (Sam) Fourie was born in 1919 on a farm near Addo, about 60 miles from Port Elisabeth, next to the Addo Game reserve. He worked for the South African Railways for almost 46 years until his retirement in 1979. He died in an old age home in Knysna 2012 October.
