This is a well-maintained example of the famous Penfold Victorian pillar-boxes. It is situated on a green owned by the town Feoffees. The original feoffees bought the town from Lord Berkeley in the 17th century according to Tetbury Online.

There are several Penfolds in Cheltenham and numerous Victorian postboxes mainly because the old dear lived so long! There are correspondingly fewer Edward the VII boxes as the poor fellow didn't last anywhere near as long and there are even less Edward VIIIs as he did a runner with his bit of fluff without even getting crowned! Thanks for your visit CMB
