A trinity of moist winds, low pressure and upper atmospheric disturbances produced a trinity of oceanic conditions of big swell, storm surge and storm waves which meant the coast was pounded by wild surf. Beaches were closed to swimmers.

In this image it appears that Australia is relishing a pounding from turbulent surf!

Surf's Up! Australia goes Down Under!

I was delighted with it when I saw it, Juan. In such conditions, one doesn't know what image you have until you download! Thanks for your appreciation of it. Greetings, Ian

On my face are salt splashes, I hear the roar of waves and I feel the unique fresh smell of the ocean! Thanks for this moment of happy, dear Yan!

Dear Criss RB,

I am delighted to meet you and to peruse your album and see Brazil through your lens. And I am pleased that you like this image. By the way I enjoyed your self-portrait seen in the eye of the beholder! Thanks for your visit. Ian

And Dear Eva,

There was plenty of salty spray on Saturday, as the huge swell rolled in onto the coast. You would truly love and be in awe of the waves here. You will never have seen such waves, for the Pacific Ocean is huge and when there is a major storm somewhere out there, the tempestuous waves and swell are quite awesome.

I am sure you would stand there watching in awe for a long time, with a 25C breeze warming your face, the sun illuminating the waves and dazzling the spray, and the ozone filling your lungs!

And I heard you whisper, "Beautiful!"

Yan

PS: Did you see the likeness of Australia in the surf?

EVA_L on April 29, 2008

Dear Yan,

this image is fantastic!

But I prefer to imagine the wave of gladness and happiness, which overflows Australia!

Cheers, Eva

Overwhelmed by gladness and happiness!

You are so beautiful, Eva - to share our joy. Our island continent is surrounded by ocean and Australians are inevitably drawn to the sea. The 12000kms of coastline is so remarkably varied, and creates so much beauty, that creativity has to be inspired by the variety with which we are surrrounded.

Thankyou, Yan

Dear Majlend and Josep Àngel,

Thank you to you both for your visits and comment. It was quite an awesome afternoon just watching the huge swell come rolling in and breaking onto the rock platforms.

I thought this was a special image because of the apparent map of Australia that appeared.

Sincere regards,

Ian
