This is the Manor House in Ken Caryl Valley. At the turn of the century, the Manor House was owned by the publisher of the Rocky Mountain News. When he wanted to invite friends out to his summer mansion, he would light a large gas lamp which could be seen in Denver about 20 miles away through a break in "the Hogback". His friends then knew they were welcome to come out to the ranch to visit. Here you can see the flag pole where there is now an electric lamp to symbolize the gas lamp from days gone by!
