Fascinating Marilyn, thank you very much for this beautiful photo, a witness of great skill of a people, whose culture has been wiped away! The clouds intensify the impression of the great elevation of this place.

There was a time, when I got very much involved about those cultures, history and art of constructions. I read all I could get and was able to find the time to read, looking up the sources back to the 19th century in the library of the university as well as reading the actual reports.

I was and am amazed about the great knowledge those people had developed often beyond ours of that time. It angers me up to today, when shortsighted people in our civilisation still believe to be members of a world of the best and highest achievements and to look down at other cultures in a patronizing manner, whereas the success of "our world" is often the result of sheer use of power.

That's the positive side of the www and the technical possibilities to help us in getting to understand and stay in contact with people all around the globe without having to cross political borders and the ones of the mind, but meeting each other on the same level. A wonderful chance to overcome old prejudices.

Thanks again for sharing this photo! Take care and I am sure you will put up some other photos, which give evidence of today and times gone by! :)

My best wishes, May

Well said May -- good job capturing the massive scale of this wall Marilyn, boggles the mind how these could have been made, let alone moved and lifted into place without the use of modern machines.

Happy trails to both of you.

This is a very beautiful and impressing photo, Marilyn. The wall and the size of the stones it is built of is amazing! Thank you for sharing with us the beauty of all the fascinating places you visit! Greetings, Anne

Thanks, all of you, and special thanks, May for your reflections. The knowledge and skill of the Incas (and of many other groups) is amazing. How sad it is that many of their constructions were dismantled to construct the buildings of their conquerors! But saddest of all is the failure, not only of their immediate conquerors, but of so many since then, to appreciate the greatness of their culture and achievements. Marilyn
