The exact date of this house's construction is unknown, but it was already built when the property was bought by Uriah Rogers in 1856. He gave it to his son James, who in turn, sold it to his brother John. John "Duffy" Rogers was married three times and had twenty children, thirteen of which were born in this house. His first wife, Laura Blitch, died while giving birth to their daughter Laura in 1883. Duffy remarried Melvina Hearn, daughter of Amos J. Hearn, and remained in this house until 1891. It was at that time that he built an enormous house just down the road. This house was featured in Col. Pharris Johnson's book "Houses of Heart Pine" which is a survey of the nine antebellum houses in Evans County.
