Nice romantic Loire chateaux! My last trip through the Val de Loire (Tours) was 1983 (!) and my last France trip was in 1987 (Riviera) - must go back for the food some time!

The castle of Meung sur Loire was the stronghold of the bishops of Orléans. This tiny city was a strategic location during the Middle Ages because of its bridge on the Loire river. The english army seized the castle during the siege of Orléans (1429). A party of 4000 englishmen stayed in Meung until they were driven out by Joan of Arc.
