Tom's Variety, on Wallace Avenue. 31st of October is a best children holiday in North America.(Unlimited candy is the reason)!
Pumpkin, a lowly vegetable, has his only glory day in a year, when it becomes the center piece of Halloween decoration as it is carved into funny or scary face.
End of October is the only time of the year, when you find pumpkins everywhere. Pumpkin is used mostly in pies!
It can be used in muffins, soups or even in Thai curries, but rarely is, except in my kitchen.
Corner Store or Convenience store is a small place in a neighbourhood where you go, if you run out of something. In this city it is typically operated by first generation immigrants. Many Koreans or Indians work long hours and employ the whole extended family.
This year, pumpkins had a great season and plentiful crop. Prices in Toronto range from $0.88 to $5.99. Size or weight is mostly irrelevant to pricing. Mine was about 8 lb for $0.88.
Lets look at it this way, if there is no Halloween, perhaps pumpkin would be not used at all.....
