This stitched panorama of five photographs was taken facing southwestwards from a pedestrian bridge above the Fremantle to Perth railway line. Fremantle station can be seen in the distance. Luxury apartments are visible in the curved building at the left. The large brick-faced building further westward is a former wool store. It is soon to be converted into luxury apartments. On the right side is Victoria Quay, part of Fremantle Harbour. The aircraft carrier is USS Tarawa. It arrived in early May 2008 to provide the crew with a few days rest and recreation after a four month deployment in the Persian Gulf. In temporary storage on the wharf are new-vehicle imports from Asia. At the extreme right beyond the footbridge is the Fremantle Passenger Terminal. It was built in the 1960s for processing immigrants. The change to air travel made it redundant. The low building on the left of the panorama is the Captain Munchie's late-night cafe. Behind the warship can be seen the beached-whale-shaped Maritime Museum. The palm trees are transplanted specimens of Phoenix canariensis.
