妙立寺は、石川県金沢市にある日蓮宗の寺院。山号は正久山。加賀三代藩主前田利常が創建。複雑な建築構造と外敵を欺く仕掛けから、忍者寺(にんじゃでら)とも呼ばれる。 天正13年（1583年）、初代藩主前田利家が金沢に入城すると、政治の理念を日蓮宗・法華経の中道精神に求め、藩を守護する祈願所を建立する。

寛永20年（1643年）、三代藩主利常が金沢城の近くから移築建立する。利常は徳川幕府の改易を避けるため、徳川家から嫁を迎え、母親を人質に出し、鼻毛を伸ばして馬鹿殿様を演じることで、幕府を欺き安心させる。一方、多くの武士が起居できる寺院群（現在の寺町寺院群）を新築し、その中心に監視所（城でいう本丸）として妙立寺を建立する。要塞としての機能を備えた妙立寺は、隠し階段・隠し部屋・落とし穴・見張り台・金沢城へ続く地下通路など外敵を欺く種々な仕掛けを備える。忍者寺と呼ばれるのは、忍者がいたのではなく、その複雑な建築構造からそう呼ばれる。

戦火を免れた妙立寺は、歴代藩主の祈願所として崇拝される。北陸の豪雪に耐え、その独特の建築様式を現在に伝えている。

妙立寺 is a temple of Takashi Nichiren in Kanazawa-shi, Ishikawa. The mountain is original Kuyama. Kaga Sandai feudal lord Toshitsune Maeda founds it. From complicated building structure and a device deceiving a foreign enemy, I am called the ninja temple (にんじゃでら). When (1583), first feudal lord Toshiie Maeda enter a fortress in Kanazawa for Tensho era 13 years, I demand an idea of the politics from the moderation mind of Takashi Nichiren / the Lotus Sutra and erect prayer place to protect a feudal clan.

It is usual (1643), a Sandai feudal lord profit for Kanei era 20 years; remove and reconstruct it from the neighborhood of が Kanazawa-jo Castle, and erect it. It is usual a profit; invite a bride from the the Tokugawas to avoid the attainting of は Tokugawa shogunate government, and start mother to a hostage, and let deceive the Shogunate by grow nose hair, and playing a fool feudal lord, and relieve. On the other hand, I build the temple group which many samurais cut by behavior (Teramachi temple group) and erect 妙立寺 as a lookout post (a main enclosure saying in a castle) in the center. Deceive the underground passages which cover it, and 妙立寺 comprising the function as the fortress covers stairs, and continue to room / pit / watch level / Kanazawa-jo Castle foreign enemy; possess a device in various ways. There was not a ninja, and it is called so it from the complicated building structure to be called a ninja temple.

妙立寺 which avoided the war is admired as the prayer place of successive feudal lords. I bear heavy snowfall of Hokuriku and convey the unique architecture at the present.
