A pied cormorant on the island in Lake Fitzpatrick in the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan, NSW.
Can you spot the intruder?

Thank you again, Helmut
The swamphen! They always seem to be lurking somewhere nearby along waterways. Got a shot of a couple back in my gallery but I need a better one. They are quite a spectacular but elusive bird.
I'd like to debate about whether cormorants are really as bad for fishos as they're made out to be. There were plenty of them around before Europeans got to Oz and the Europeans didn't have any trouble finding fish. Could it be the other way around?? Really gets to me when anything that gets in our way becomes a target without question.
Stories are told about huge shimmering schools of mullet in the Peel/ Harvey estuary system in the old days. It's not like that any more.. and it wasn't the cormorants that did it!
Oh yeah.. Like the shot lots!
I should point out, I'm not having a shot at Ebi here. The main culprits in the 'war' against cormorants are some professional fishers and a few recreational anglers who seem to think they should own the whole damn ecosystem.
You win the prize for the swamphen, Jock. Curious birds!
I think it is fair to say that cormorants have as much right to fish as we do. Thanks for the comments.
Great shot. YSL 4.15. Best wishes,

Thank you very much.
Nice detail of the place... and the elegant bird ready to defend its property.
Greetings from Paraguay, Boettner
He looks a bit wary, doesn't he, Luis!
: ) )
Hallo Roger, the pair of moorhen - relatives gallinula chloropus? - try to defend their nest, I suppose the cormorant is waiting for a moment to have a meal from the brood. Excellent nature shot !!L!! Kind regards, Hans
Thanks for your comment. Nature is a battleground, isn't it?
: ) )
He/she reminds me of a Leung, cartoon character! ;)
I like the shot very much.
Best wishes, David.
Not sure if you mean Leung or Leunig, David?
