This St Mary's parish church. Although it is within Co. Louth it serves the diocese of Meath, whereas the north side of the river is in the archdiocese of Armagh where GAA fans pray for victory for County Louth — even against the boys and belles of St Mary's! I think that once upon a time the river Boyne was the boundary between counties Meath and Louth. In the distant past there were two towns, one on either bank. Further back in time Co. Meath and Co. Westmeath formed a fifth province. That was when we had Na Cúig Cúige or Five Fifths as the provinces were known. Curiously enough, County Louth was part of Ulster in those days.
