Amazing picture! Just wanted to clarify for anyone checking this out who is interested in visiting Nevada City- I'm guessing this shot was taken in the early 1980s. The buildings are all still here but they look a bit different now!

Hello Pfaffendorn (??!),

I'm a graphic designer working on a brochure for the Maybeck Foundation to thank the donors of The Campaign to Save the Palace of Fine Arts. The campaign is ending in December, and at that time the foundation will be sending out 750 of these brochures to donors of $1,000 and above. I am interested in using one of your (beautiful!) photographs in the commemorative brochure -- one that I found on Panoramio. It is Panoramio image #26281895. Would this use be possible with a credit to you? I can send you a PDF file showing your photograph in position in the brochure if that will be of any help.

Thanks in advance for your consideration of this proposal. Jacqueline Jones

The "Cathedral of the Plains" is Saint Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria, Kansas. Built between 1908 and 1911, at the time of its dedication it was the largest church west of the Mississippi River. The church is 220 feet long, 110 feet wide at the transepts and 75 feet at the nave. Its ceiling is 44 feet above the ground and the towers are 141 feet tall. Unlike many other important churches which use faux materials and finishes, the nave columns are made of Vermont granite which was dragged from the railroad on horse-drawn sledges along unpaved roads. The exterior is constructed of large native limestone blocks weighing from 50 to 100 pounds each. The Romanesque-design church contains German windows & works of art, Austrian hand carved stations of the cross, and an Italian marble altar.

Hello Pfaffendorn

This is very nice, it is the closest photo I've found to what a person actually sees when there!!

Very Well Done!

I like it!

If you are fortunate enough to book this awesome cottage for a stay, do not forget to leave a penny or two to satisfy the ghosts rumored to still live there.
