This is a pretty good shot of Beaver . . . there's no way to capture the drop off effect on camera, unfortunately, it's just one of those places you have to see for yourself to really understand it. Beautiful place, the Flambeau. Nice shots here and at Cedar Rapids, Panther.

There is no better feeling after a three or four day float than coming around that corner to see the landing there, the flags flying and the beer signs standing tall. Love the Lodge and the River; one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. We can't see half that many stars in IL.

Mispelled.

Marshall

The location listed here on Panoramio is closer but on Google Earth is still shown south in Washington Park.

Imagine the original... A 65 foot high statue in plaster (covered in gold leaf with lights in the crown) by Daniel Chester French titled "The Republic." French's statue was the single most imposing construction at the Exposition, dwarfing all other sculptures and having pride of place at the eastern end of the basin, facing the Exposition's Administration Building.

Peaks from left to right. Hagues Peak, Fairchild Mountain, Ypsilon Mountain and two of the Desolation Peaks.
