Shahid: The islands you mention were low lying and subject to tidal inundation especially if the wind was from the south when the water level at the head of the Gulf was raised due to a 'seiche' effect. Not therfore suitable for permanent habitation.
At the south end of Bubiyan there was a shell-bank which stayed above water at high tide in the 1970's, and that seems later to have become a road connected to the mainland by a bridge, but only to facilitate state border security following two Iraqi invasions.
Failika on the other hand stays dry and has been populated since the time of Alexander the Great when it was a factory for Greek disc seals. An archeological team from Copenhagen excavated its site near the village of Az-Zor and a small museum displays a representative collection of the artifacts found there. The island as a result has merited a regular dhow ferry service from Kuwait City.

Umm al Maradhim; in 1970's a breeding beach for Green Turtles.
Once (pre-1950's) a seasonal fishermen's abode, with a breeding colony of Crab Plover.
