Rajnigosz's conversations

Still in 1985 this bridge had locks that were in repairable condition. 12 (4 per each arch of the bridge) steel reinforced wooden locks were lifted or lowered into place by a system of gears. The gears were enclosed in a steel trolley that looked like the cargo trolleys that are used in coal mines. It had small wheels that rolled on rails installed along the bridge on the up-the-river side of it. The trolley was rolled along the rails right above the lock that needed to be re-positioned, then the operator would turn the gears by means of a simple crank. The mechanism would lower two lifting beams that passed thru the trolley and all the gear system. The beams would catch the hooks of the lock, then the operator would turn the crank and lift the lock or lower it. The locks were around 150cm in height, so if necessary both locks would be put one above the other lifting the water level by 3m. There are traces of highly complex water mill system in the whole Rudy area. Some of these earth structures date back to XII century, where they powered Cystercian mills and foundries. The steel industry of the area is described by Rozdzienski's Officina Ferraria.

Ależ oczywiście. Już poprawiłam. Dzięki za uwagę. Pozdrawiam

Kto by pomyślał, że to kapliczka!
