The cups in this design align north-south and east-west. The northern line points directly towards Simon's Seat on the northern skyline. The eastern axis points directly at Almscliffe Crag, above which the equinox rises from here. This is probably the most famous carved rock on the moor, the Swastika Stone is generally considered to be later than the other carvings here and to date from the Iron Age.

This building still stands in Dalton Lane. The college is being built on the corner by the railway station, but this building is half way down the road, about 600 yards away.

THIS IS WHERE I LEARNED TO TRIM SHURBBERY. I STUDIED AND TOOK PICTURES OF THESE AND THEN TRIMMED MY OWN WHEN I RETURNED TO THE US. I TRIMMED MY OWN HOUSE SHRUBS IN SHAPES OF HEARTS AND ACES. MY INSPIRATION CAME FROM HERE.
